The Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home strives to add life to the years of it's residents and staff at our 200 resident long term care home. Situated on the Salisbury Road, we believe in providing quality person centred care to our residents and staff. As an HR Advisor, you will play an integral role in supporting the staff and leadership at the home.

We are currently accepting applications for a Permanent Full-Time Human Resource Advisor.

Mandate:

Reporting jointly to the Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Baptist Housing and the Executive Director of Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home, the Human Resources Advisor will manage the human resource and labor relations concerns of the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home and the Villa Chaleur Inc. They will develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with employees (unionized and non-unionized staff), management and union representatives which are the foundation of a productive and harmonious workplace. The Human Resources Advisor will be responsible for duties including but not limited to; providing support and guidance in interpreting and applying collective agreements, supports performance management and progressive discipline, attendance management, ensure process and policy compliance, review personnel policies, programs, and practices to keep the company up-to-date on current practices, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance in the workplace, recruitment, effective training programs. As well they will contribute to the harmonization of HR policies, procedures, and programs and assist with the implementation of various HR plans across our sites spanning three provinces.

The ability to build and foster productive relationships with employees, co-workers and union representatives while creating and encouraging an environment of openness, trust and collaboration is essential.

Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver exceptional service
  • Drive a culture of employee engagement and person-centred care
  • Show leadership; steer and motivate the team to implement the company's mission, vision and values
  • Support Management through labour relations and provide advice in a unionized environment
  • Manage and maintain all employment related documents and onboarding/orientation processes
  • Formulate, recommend, and interpret personnel policies to meet the objective of the company
  • Ensure company's compliance in regard with Labour law and employment related regulations
  • Leads new hire onboarding including new hire orientation and workplace induction, setting the stage for an engaged and satisfied workforce
  • Receives and responds to employee requests concerning HR policies, procedures, and processes
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects the company's intellectual property by keeping HR records compliant and electronically secured in employee/HR files
  • Plan wellness and employee engagement activities
  • Maintains and Workers Compensation file (worksafe) ease back procedures and follow-up with employees
  • Active member of internal committees

Required Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources or related area
  • Minimum of 3 years Employee Relations experience is required
  • Equivalent combination of qualifications, education and experience will be considered
  • Knowledge of and experience in working within unionized environments is essential.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal);
  • Knowledge of Performance Management, Attendance Management, and Labor relations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Canadian human resources laws, processes and procedures relating to staffing, employee relations, payroll and employment regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in developing written policies and communications
  • Demonstrated ability to seek out and suggest alternate procedures to meet objectives and strict deadlines
  • Proficiency with various software applications programs including e-mail messaging applications, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are necessary.
  • Hands-on and pro-active approach and ability to work without strict guidance;
  • Ability to balance company and employee needs, handle confidential information and stressful situations with tact and sensitivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish trusted relationships with Management members and employees.
  • Successful candidates must have leadership abilities and strong communications skills. The ideal candidate must have the ability to promote a positive safe work environment and establish effective working relationships.

Salary: $56,000.00-$59,000.00 per year
